If you have a little longer in Göteborg and West Sweden...

Universeum

• Enjoy a day out at Liseberg Amusement Park, which isn’t only open during the spring and summer, but also opens its gates for over a month in the run up to Christmas.

• Visit Universeum Science Discovery Centre, by Korsvägen next to Liseberg. It has aquaria, rainforests, and experimental workshops.

• Further down the road is the modern Museum of World Culture.

.• Go on a day trip to Marstand, an idyllic island north of Göteborg – it’s just an hour’s bus trip from Central Station and worth a visit any time of the year. Car-free, the island is perfect for strolls around the winding streets and up the steep slopes to Carlsten’s Fortress.

• Also outside of Göteborg is Klädesholmen, an island famous for its herring, next to Tjörn, Sweden’s fifth largest island. Stay at the floating hotel Salt & Sill. Visit the watercolour museum located right on the water’s edge at Skärhamn.

When you have tried what the city offers:

Läcko castle

• Stay in a lighthouse. There’s Pater Noster in the southern part of Bohuslän or Väderöarna further north and experience the spectacular barren coastline.

• Try out island life on the picturesque Käring island with its irregular buildings and narrow, winding streets.

• Pick oysters at Grebbestad or go on a lobster safari around Fjällbacka.

• Take the island ferry from Strömstad to Koster and experience Sweden’s first marine national park.

• Visit Dalsland, the scenery in the northern part of the region is sometimes called ‘Sweden in miniature’ because of its varying landscape.

• Go on a moose safari in Hunneberg and Halleberg, where the Swedish king usually hunts.

• Visit Läckö castle, which has its origins in the 11th century. It is outside of Lidköping by Sweden’s largest lake, Vänern.

• Experience Borås, the old textile town, and visit the Textile Museum which shows the development of the industry from the 1870s to today’s current partnership with the Swedish School of Textiles.
