The city of Göteborg was founded in 1621 and governed by an international council. Following a ruling from the Swedish king, the council included Dutch, German, Scottish, and Swedish members. We thus live and work in a city with a long tradition of international co-operation and of close contact with other regions and countries. From this comes our ability to continually evolve – even in tough times.
Here in Göteborg and Västra Götaland you’ll find Sweden’s industrial heart, with famous companies such as Volvo, SKF, AstraZeneca and Ericsson. Regional development here involves close co-operation between business and industry, the public sector and the research sector.
Our goal is to maintain and strengthen Göteborg and Västra Götaland as a world-class example, with both the research sector as well as the business sector prepared to take responsibility for tomorrow’s environmentally sound products and services. We see our goal within a wider ambition of being a part of a sustainable society.
We have put together a host of information and facts about Göteborg and Västra Götaland which we hope you will find useful and enjoyable.
Once again, a warm welcome!
